SYNAGOGUES

A fun-filled afternoon for the whole family .

We can now explain why
the parsha opens with the
repetition of the Sabbath
commandment. Even though
the construction of the taber-
nacle was for a sacred purpose
— the dwelling place of the
Shechina — the obligation to
observe the Sabbath took
precedence. For it is only
through our own Sabbath
observance that the Shechina
can find a dwelling place in
our hearts.
"More than Israel has kept
the Sabbath, the Sabbath has
kept Israel" (Achad Ha-Am,
Al Parashat Derachim).
