BROWN JORDAN News had the courage to write about what really goes on at the Ira Kaufman Chapel (Mar. 1). Because of the high volume of business they do, the deceased are treated more like a car going through a Jax car wash. As Elizabeth Ap- plebaum reported, the bodies are given a "wash and a spray wax coating." Kaufman Chapel willingly violates Jewish law by em- balming bodies and arrang- ing for cremation. The deceas- ed are "fixed up" for viewing by gentile morticians which is also against Jewish law. As the article stated, if you want it they will do it, anything for a buck. Our religion says that the deceas- ed should be shown the same respect you would give a Torah . . . Dr. Ronald A. Neufeld West Bloomfield N EWS Iraq Is Threat Claims Envoy United Nations (JTA) — The destruction of Iraq's once-vaunted military arsenal, much of it now strewn across the desert in burned-out hulks of tank metal and abandoned weapons, has greatly diminished the Iraqi threat to the region, Israel's am- bassador to the United Nations said last week. But while the war may have ended in sweeping defeat for what was the world's fourth largest army, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein so far has retained his hold, posing a continuing danger to Israel, the ambas- sador, Yoram Aridor, said. "Israel is still in danger, but we are capable of defen- ding ourselves if and when the need to defend ourselves arises," said Mr. Aridor, whose country has so far refrained from responding militarily to the 39 Iraqi missile attacks it has en- dured. Mr. Aridor con- gratulated the U.S.-led forces that defeated the Iraqi army in just 100 hours, say- ing Hussein was stopped at the 11th hour, before acquir- ing nuclear weapons. During the hour-long interview in his office at the Israeli Mis- sion, Mr. Aridor stressed over and over again Israel's willingness to engage in direct, bilateral negotiations with its Arab neighbors. • .•••••• ..... „ ...............
