Calmen Shemi
Exhibit Opens

Park West Gallery in South-
field will host an exhibit
beginning March 8 of
"Calmen Shemi Soft Pain-
tings and Acrylics."
Calmen Shemi was born in
Argentina in 1939. A gradu-
ate of the School of Sculpture
and Ceramics in Mendoza, he
was a student of the Italian-
Argentinian sculptor, Libero
Badii, and the German-
Israeli sculptor Rudi
Lehman. In 1961, Shemi
settled in Israel and joined
Kibbutz Carmia, of which he
was a member for 20 years.
Since 1981 he has lived in Je-
rusalem, where he has cre-
ated soft paintings, a new
modern art form, using fabric
and thread.
