The Junior NCSY chapter is for young people in 6th-8th grade and provides social and educa- tional programming through- out the year. The Shabbaton will be held at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim in Windsor. On Mar. 4, the Russian Learning program will con- tinue classes in Conversa- tional Hebrew at 7 p.m. at the JPM Jewish Community Center. Classes are taught by Ms. Narda Oz and are held in conjunction with the Agency for Jewish Education. On Mar. 6, the Russian NCSYers will be going out for pizza and to a movie. The group will meet at 6:45 p.m. at the JPM Jewish Communi- ty Center. The Young Israel Teens chapter of NCSY for 9th-12th graders will have an Oneg Shabbat 8:15 p.m. Mar. 8 at the home of Elie Schochet, 28490 Tavistock Trail, Southfield. The topic for discussion will be "Yishuv Eretz Yisroel, The Mitzvah of Living in Israel." The discus- sion will be led by Joshua Zwelling, the Central East Region programs director. Soviet Jewish newcomers participat- ing in the Family to Family Program, sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women and Women's Divi- sion of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, will receive com- plimentary tickets for the car- nival booths. Ceramics, dance, theater arts and music (instrumental and vocal) will be presented under the direction of Pewabic Pottery, David Syme, the Detroit Dance Collective and the Jewish Ensemble Theatre. 'I LOCAL NEWS II " Temple Kol Ami Music Service "The World of Jewish Music" — The Jewish Connec- tion — will be the theme of the Sermon in Song at the an- nual Jewish Music Season Service 8 p.m. Mar. 1 at 'Tem- ple Kol Ami. Members of the Temple Choir will participate in the reading of the service which will feature the music of Isadore Freed. The Sermon in Song will include folk music and works by Achron, Block, Handel, Lavry, Mendelssohn, Meyerbeer, Milhaud, and Moszkowski. Performers will be Erica Canvasser, violinist; Nathalie Conrad, pianist; Carol Fer- rero, mezzo-soprano; Susan Shevitz, flutist; and Avra Weiss, soprano.
