WHATEVER THE OTHER DEALERS CHARGE ... MEL PARR WILL SELL FOR LESS! "WE WANT TO EARN YOUR BUSINESS! president of Centre Group Limited Partnership, the um- brella organization that runs the Capital Centre, said the families of those in the Gulf can come to games for free. In Detroit, Joe Louis Arena and Cobo Arena have made tickets for specified events available to parents, spouses and children of servicemen. Sachs said if they can give those family members a plea- sant diversion and some en- joyment along with keeping their minds away from the Gulf, it will be a plus for everyone. "You need to have some op- portunity to take (time) off," said Sachs. "You can't focus on the war 24 hours a day." Still, Sachs said the teams at the Capital Centre don't want fans to forget those overseas. The Bullets — and other NBA teams — are wear- ing small American flags as a remembrance of the troops. Prior to Capitals' games, other patriotic songs are sung. Also, the Capital Centre uses a joint color guard featuring all branches of the service. Sachs said they still are searching for other ways to display patriotic themes. On a personal level, Sachs said he feels a fear for those caught in the tense situation existing in Israel. "The people we're most con- cerned about are the ones who live under the fear of Scud missiles and biochemical warfare," said Sachs. "It tears your heart out and turns your stomach to think that these people have to live with this day in and day out." Irwin Cohen, group sales director for the Detroit Tigers, said he also feels for those in the Middle East. A wave of patriotism has swept over him. "We all feel more patriotic," said Cohen. "If I could find something, I'd pin it on my car." Cohen said the war hasn't affected the Tigers' sales as of yet. He said if the war is still going on when the season starts, that may be a different story. In the end, however, no mat- ter what side you are on, it is difficult to like the conse- quences of war. "Any time there is wanton destruction, it is horrible," said Steiner. "Whether it's East, West, North or South, any time people are being blown up on any side of the coin, it's horrible." And that's something no ballgame can make anyone forget. ❑ B'nai B'rith Bowlers Compete In Tournaments PLUS .. ,DRIVE ANY OF THESE CARS AND GET FEBRUARY DISCOUNTS!
