"The Arab-Israeli Conflict:
1880-1948" will launch a
series of political awareness
lectures sponsored by the
Jewish Welfare Federation
Youth Adult Division. Rev.
James Lyons will be the
speaker for the opening lec-
ture, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26, at
Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Rev. Lyons will provide a
background of Zionism, the
beginnings of the conflict and
a history of the development
of the Israeli state. Latest in-
formation on the current
situation in the Middle East
will be discussed.
There is a charge for the in-
dividual lectures or a fee for

Israeli Folk Dance Troupe 8

Galai HaRuach under the
direction of the late Rachel
Jacobs. Its members portray
Israel's history and tradition.

ANSWER: Under prior rules,
both commercial and
residential real estate were
depreciable over a 19-year
period. On top of that, real
estate could be written off at an
accelerated rate that produced
bigger deductions in the early
years of ownership than in later
years.
The Tax Reform Act increases
the depreciation period to 271/2
years for residential property
and 311/2 years for commercial
property. Accelerated deprecia-
tion has been eliminated. All
types of property must now be
written off using straight-line
depreciation depreciation
resulting in equal yearly
deductions.
