Holocaust Statue
Now On Display

Introduces a New Innovation
In Designer Bedrooms
A 5-Piece Bedroom Group in a Rainbow of Colors

The original of a Holocaust
Memorial statue is on display
at the Holocaust Memorial
Center, 6602 W. Maple Road,
West Bloomfield.
This statue served as a
model for the one erected in
Skokie, Ill., in 1987. It was ac-
quired by Balfour Peisner
from the sculptor, Edward
Chesney, and Mr. Peisner has
now loaned it to the Holo-
caust Memorial Center.
The statue is bronze, and all
parts are symbolic of
something in the Holocaust.
The base upon which the
figures stand depicts cob-
blestones, to resemble the
streets of European villages.
It is surrounded with barbed
wire, a reminder of the con-
centration camps.
There is a grandmother
holding a dead child in her
lap and looking to heaven. A
boy is clinging to his grand-
father, who is looking in
despair.
Behind these figures is a
freedom-fighter, standing on
the ruins of a synagogue
represented by loose bricks
and the remnants of Torah
scrolls and a menorah.

Spring Classes
at Maple-Drake

The Maple-Drake Jewish
Community Center will offer
the following classes:
Art classes will be offered to
children and adults. Some are
Father and Son Art, Multi-
Media Parent and Tot and T-
Shirt Painting and Design.
Others are Creative
Ceramics, Sculpture, Callig-
raphy, Watercolor, Drawing
and Museum and Gallery
Tours.
Magic, for children, will be
offered. Children ages 6-12
years old can participate in a
four week series of classes on
Mondays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. star-
ting on Mar. 4.
Deanna Sperka will offer a
spring museum and gallery
tour class. Mrs. Sperka, a
multi-media artist and pho-
tographer, will take classes to
alternative space galleries as
well as major museum retro-
spectives. This lecture series
will start Mar. 6 for 11
Wednesday mornings.

Committee Meets

24 at the Maple-Drake Jewish
Community Center.
