MOT Presents
Comedy Ballet

Michigan Opera Theatre
will present the ballet Cop-
pelia 8 p.m. Mar. 8-9 and 2
and 7:30 p.m. Mar. 10. at the
Masonic Temple. Entertain-
ment will be performed by the
Cleveland San Jose Ballet.
A storybook ballet of com-
edy and color Coppelia takes
place long ago in a small
European village where the
toymaker Dr. Coppelius
creates mechanical dolls that
are nearly lifelike. The story
evolves into a romantic com-
edy as Franz, one of the
village boys, becomes in-
fatuated with Dr. Coppelius'
favorite doll, Coppelia.
Curiosity and jealousy lead
Franz' fiance, Swanilda, and
her friends, to discover life-
sized Scottish, Spanish,
Chinese and other mechani-
cal dolls in Dr. Copelius' shop.
