New 1991 spite the more than 50 hours a week that the team prac- tices to perfect their skills, Blumberg made time to go to college. Few figure skat- ers ever get a degree, but Blumberg, now a student at New York University, said she believes college is impor- tant for her. "There is really enough time to do both," she said. "Kids really shouldn't have to think about giving up their education when they don't have to." Among their many fans, Blumberg and Seibert have won the hearts of the Jewish community over their 12-year career. They have received many honors from Jewish organi- zations, including a B'nai B'rith International award in 1981 and Blumberg's re- cent induction into the In- ternational Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. "I consider myself lucky to be considered a good role model as a Jew," Blumberg said. "I believe in the princi- ple of giving back to people. In spite of all the shows and competitions, one of my fa- vorite moments came when I had the opportunity to work with Special Olympics ath- letes," who are developmen- tally disabled. Now 29, Blumberg is busy and looking ahead. When not competing or appearing in ice shows, she does commentary for CBS Sports and makes frequent appearances in schools as a motivational speaker. But she does look back fondly at some moments. "When my grandfather said 'You made the Blumberg name live on for- ever' when I was inducted into the Jewish Hall of Fame, I was thinking about the years I spent growing up," Blumberg said. I was "realizing how important my family was and is to my career."
