ZIONIST ORGANIZATION OF AMERICA Metropolitan Detroit District invites the community to sentative on the Police and Fire Civil Service Commis- sion, said he didn't believe the city had enough police to properly supervise the area. He also said he had little faith in the city's ability to secure the deck after dark. This also worried Rabbi Freedman, who is executive director of Yeshivah Beth Yehudah, the school in ques- tion. He maintained that Beth Yehudah was threatened by its proximity to the proposed parking lot. "The deck is hidden from the main road and provides a real security risk for mem- bers of the Orthodox com- munity who need to walk across it to get to synagogues on Shabbat," he said. Consequently, the city of Southfield has agreed to close the deck from dusk to dawn, add lighting along pedestrian pathways all the way to Fairfax and Kingshire and monitor the area with police and safety patrols. Rabbi Freedman said he's satisfied with the com- promise, but intends to keep a close eye on the city's promises. He, along with Mr. Kresch, Rabbi Kaplan and Council President Suzanne Goldstein, have formed a committee for regular re- view. In addition, the city coun- cil has agreed to evaluate the parking lot's impact after one year. ❑ Woman Surprises Flag Vandals In HW ALAN HITSKY Associate Editor T een vandals were sur- prised Monday eve- . ning to find someone home at the Sandler household in Huntington Woods.
