"It's a group project," said Sally Allan Alexander Bais Yaakov High School student Milaine Gibbs, as she scur- ried around the school gathering the girls for -a newspaper photograph. "We don't want to leave anyone out," she added. The idea for the annual school play began last summer. "We read the book and found out it had been written as a play," said drama committee member Ayala Sperka. Promise Me Tomorrow by Sara Birnhack revolves around the Beth Jacob movement, the Jewish edu- cation of young women, in Poland between the two world wars. After reading the script, the girls decided to perform the play. They then wrote the music and choreograph- ed the dancing. They also sewed all of the costumes. The senior class divided the work accordingly: publicity, Pesheh Zentman and Miriam Ishakis; refresh- ments, Riva Docks; pro- gram, Esther Leah Meer; choir, Dena Nusbaum with assistant Sara Peterson; drama, Zehavah Blumen- feld, Elana Betsalel, Ayala Sperka; dance Esty Green- field with assistant Richard Goulson; props, Devorah Garsek and Yehudis Stolov; tickets, Chaya Singerman and Milaine Gibbs; scen- ery, Shira Drucker and Ruth Waknine; sewing, Dena Kuperman and Dassie Ribiat; costumes, Rochel Frankel and Rena Loketch. The teacher coordinator is Rochel Schwartz. "The girls are mainly doing it on their own. I'm the security blanket," said Mrs. Schwartz. "Everybody has the opportunity to par- ticipate and use their abili- ties and talents. Even the child who has not achieved academically. They have a Drama Committee: Ayala Sperka, Zehavah Blumenfeld. place they can shine," said Rabbi Samuel E. Cohen, principal of the high school. Ticket committee member Milaine Gibbs reiterates how important all the jobs are. "There's a lot of work behind the scenes," she said. The girls are hoping for a large attendance, since they have printed 700 tickets. "We hope it will be enough," said Ayala Sperka. The students will perform the play on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Southfield High School at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults for the for-women- only performance. The tickets will be $2 more at the door. For more information,
