Some
Battles
Are
Close
to Home.
While Israel's people courageously fight a very different kind of war,
a quiet struggle is taking place each day here in Detroit.
The participants in this battle are old and alone, or suddenly poor, or
in some way disabled and incapable of fighting back. Homelessness, once
largely unknown in our Jewish community, is no longer a stranger.
Recession and government funding cutbacks are hurting hundreds of
our people and the Jewish agencies that serve them. Without the Allied
Jewish Campaign to help meet these agency budgets, we may have to
sacrifice vital programs that help individuals and families in trouble.
There's a special quality about our community. Detroiters don't
surrender in bad times, they stand tough.
Do your part on the home front, too. Make your best possible pledge
to the 1991 Allied Jewish Campaign.
