he could act the role of
Leibush Scheinberg.
"And his story — and all the
other stories — make up the
whole story of the immigrant
experience," says Mr. Ader, as
he concludes the tour — and
gets a rousing round of
applause.
Afterwards, visitors walk
back to the museum to look at
the two special photo exhibits,
one about the Triangle Fac-
tory fire of 1911 and the other
a display of the photos of im-
migrant families taken in the
mid-1930s by Arnold Eagle.
They also pick up literature
about this unique museum,
with its varied programs,
which include workshops
focusing on themes related to
the museum's research;
dramas presented to elemen-
tary school children; and a
national search effort to
locate all the former residents
— and their descendants —
who lived in its historic six
story tenement building from
1935-1963, when it was seal-
ed shut.
Tourists are intrigued to
learn of all this activity in the
tenement on Orchard Street.
They are especially en-
thusiastic about the tour
they've just experienced,
which for some visitors was
almost like a journey home. 0

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Saddam
Hussein's relentless Scud
missile attacks on Israel, es-
pecially in the Tel Aviv area,
have created a new band of
homeless.
Some 4,000 people have
been evacuated from
damaged homes in the
Greater Tel Aviv area and
temporarily housed in local
hotels.
Insurance officials say that
4,000 housing units have
been damaged in some form.
Most of this damage is
reparable, including broken
window panes and door
frames, or cracked walls and
damaged roofs.
But several score struc-
tures have to be totally raz-
ed.
The municipality of Ramat
Gan, the Tel Aviv suburb
struck in a direct hit on Jan.
22, began work Jan. 27
demolishing seven struc-
tures severely damaged by
the impact of a Scud
warhead. One of these
buildings contained eight
apartments.
