At T'Marra Gallery
Works of two contemporary
artists, Alexander Shnurov
and Karl Hoeffler, will be at
the T'Marra Gallery, Ann Ar-
bor, beginning Feb. 2-Mar. 2.
Alexander Shnurov, a con-
ceptual artist, emigrated
from the USSR to the USA in
1989 and now lives in New
York. Born in Moscow in
1955, Alexander identifies
strongly with the Jewish
heritage of his father. He
studied with Vasily Sitnikov,
a well-known Russian artist.
He has studied Egyptian art
and history, Buddism philos-
ophy, Islamic art, Russian
icons and primitive art. In-
fluences from Oriental art
and Orthodox iconography
are prominent in his art
works. While in Moscow, he
participated in both noncon-
