The games were played at the Oakland Community Col- lege — Orchard Ridge campus. Centennial, captained by Joel Kaufman, won the first two games of the match before Keidan, led by Ken Bertin, took the next three to win the A Division playoff championship. Keidan had BB Men Begin Basketball Play- The largest Greater Detroit B'nai B'rith Men's Basketball League in history began play last Sunday, with 24 teams and over 240 players. League founder and com- missioner Marty Melton said this 16th season represents a net increase of six teams over 1990. "We actually began 1990 with 20 teams, but lost two during the season," he said. All participants must be members of B'nai B'rith. Melton said the organization will welcome the veteran and new players next Sunday with coffee and doughnuts. Games are played at the Community Oakland Ridge College-Orchard campus. Centennial, which had a 59-21 regular-season record, defeated Brotherhood #2 (22-58 during the season), while Keidan (50-30) defeated Morganthau (29-51). In the _B Division playoffs, Detroit #1, 40-40 in regular play, reached the title game by upsetting Detroit #2 (45-35) with a 3-1 victory. Brotherhood #3 had no trou- ble eliminating Brotherhood #1 in the other preliminary, 3-0. Brotherhood #1, 35-46 during the regular season, had won a playoff berth by one game over arch-rival Brotherhood #4 (33-47). Jeff Goldsmith captained Brotherhood #3, while Larry Newman led Detroit #1. Volleyball league commis- sioner Marty Melton said Brotherhood #3 will move to the tougher A.
