Southfield, MI 48076 A division of JVS, the Senior Corps provides volunteer work experience for individuals 60 years and older (55 if han- dicapped). Volunteers are plac- ed in any one of a number of non-profit organizations within this area, performing a valuable community service while maintaining a sense of personal worth and well-being. Transportation is available. Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of opportunities, some work as teachers' aides in day care or nursery school settings. Others do clerical work or answer telephones. Still others package surgical materials. Estimated time commitment: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., one day a week. Many are physically handicapped, as well as developmentally disabled. The Center's philosophy, which is "Everyone Can Learn," attempts to teach as many "skills of living" as possible. Volunteers are needed to help care for, feed, amuse and socialize with the students. The volunteers may read to the students, take them for walks or to the playground, lunch with them, and generally assist the teachers and the 'staff. Special skills needed: Pa- tience, love of children and the desire to help handicapped children. Estimated time commitment: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., one or more days a week. Most volunteers work two hours at a time, once or twice a week. Children's Immune Disorder (C.I.D.) 604 W. McNichols Detroit, MI 48203 C.I.D. is a direct service organization for women and children infected/affected by the HIV virus. They provide a range of services from transportation and delivery to crisis intervention to counsel- ing. C.I.D. also works with sibl- ings under the age of 13 in a family unit. The focus is to maintain the family unit as long as possible. Volunteers are needed to write grants, act as speakers, financial advisers, and marketing resources.
