stepsisters, with whom he had been
raised since childhood. Mrs. Burt
brought the oversight to the
photographer's attention, and the
picture was retaken.
"(Taking family photos) is often
poignant and sad," Mrs. Burt says.
"No matter how often we regroup at
these social events, it doesn't ever go
back to the original family unit."
While every divorce situation is
different, and not everyone will cause
tension at a wedding, Mrs. Burt
recommends that couples prepare for
the unexpected. Couples must realize,
however, that they cannot anticipate
all problems, she adds.

accommodate the individual family
situation. "The wording depends on
both the relationship of the divorced
parents, and the bride's and groom's
feelings," she said.
Other variables can affect how the
invitation is worded, according to
Edith Gilbert, author of The Complete
Wedding Planner. "The invitation has to
be based on feelings, as well as the
reality of who is footing the bill," said
Mrs. Gilbert whose book, originally
published in hardcover in 1989, will
be out in paperback in early 1991.
While the wording depends on
many variables — who is paying for
the wedding, the relationship
between the parent and the child
there is a "proper" format.
