likely to select hot pink-colored
flowers.
Flowers for the bridal bouquets
remain the traditional favorites
roses, orchids, stephanotis, baby's
breath (sometimes strewn with glitter).
Once in awhile you have a bride who
wants something exotic like bird of
paradise.
Flowers at the ceremony are often
fairly simple, and may consist of some
strategically placed potted trees and
palms around the chuppah. There
may also be a floral arrangement that
does double duty on the buffet table.
When the ceremony is being held
outdoors, many florists try to accent
it, not overwhelm it. They choose
blooming potted plants, maybe some
ribbons and lace. But no aisle runners
— they're slippery on the grass.
According to Ceil Stocker of Berkley
Flower Shop, Creations by Ceil,
gardens are beautiful but they need
more color especially in June. "We
make it very decorative. We add lights,
lanterns and potted plants," says
Ms. Stocker.
For the reception (outdoors or
inside), one way to achieve a garden
theme is to use floral print tablecloths
and glass bowls or baskets for the
centerpieces. Use natural (not hot
house) flowers that are found in the
season, and in a free-form
arrangement, not a tight ball. Florists
like to add branches to the
arrangements.
For a nighttime affair you can string
lights in (rented) trees for some glitter.
For evening affairs, most people
choose a more sophisticated effect.
Some florists suggest using glass and
mirrors and votive candles around the
centerpieces.
In wedding color schemes, peach
is out and raspberry is in. Jewel tones
are in. Black and white weddings
remain popular. It's probably a good
idea to talk to your florist about two
to three months before the wedding.
Prices can start from under $1,000
and run into the thousands of dollars
for a large reception with lots of
arrangements and/or unusual flowers.
