In her breathtaking gown, face glowing with excitement, her natural radiance shines through. Such beauty can't be copied — but it can be polished. With a bit of careful planning and some smart beauty strategies, even the busiest of brides can look wonderful before, during and after that most special of days. It doesn't take much time to find the best look for you. Ten extra minutes a day devoted to skin and nail care, one or two weekend afternoons spent practicing your makeup, will yield lovely results. Now is the time to consult the experts. You'll want your colors done first. Your makeup and accessories, the subtle shades in your wedding ensemble, the flowers you carry and the colors of your bridesmaids' gowns should be based, at least in part, on your personal palette. Visit a hairdresser to discuss styles and haircuts; if possible, bring along the headdress you'll be wearing. Start a conditioning regimen as soon as possible to make sure your hair will lustrous and healthy. Today's hair fashions for brides is, for the most part, simple. The emphasis is on a natural, healthy look. If your hair is long and your wedding style romantic, you might want to have your hair permed into flowing waves. For a sophisticated look, consider a sculptural hairpiece — perhaps one that resembles a tight braid woven into a bun. Bridal makeup is never so bold it calls attention to itself — yet it's impossible to forgo it altogether (your face will disappear amid all that white). A consultation with a professional makeup artist is a must — and well worth the cost. Pastels are currently popular, both in makeup and nail color. Harsh reds, purples and browns have given way to shades of mauve, rose, peach and fawn. A few wedding day hints: Watch out for shine that will show up in photographs. Keep a powder compact handy, as well as your lipstick, and choose a mascara that won't run if you cry. ❑ 34 Brides 1991
