Southfield's Concerts In
The Garden Series will pre-
sent the Mariachi Zappapan
11:30 a.m. Jan. 27 at the Em-
bassy Suites Hotel.
Mariachi Zappapan came to
Detroit from San Francisco
for a three month engage-
ment and decided to stay.
They are the oldest establish-
ed mariachi group in this
area. Their costumes are
made for them in Guadala-
jara, Mexico. The group sings
in both Spanish and in
English and their music in-
cludes melodies from the
1950s through 1990s. Their
instruments include trum-
pets, guitar, violin, vihuela
(small guitar), bass and a
vocalist.
For ticket information, call
Marlowe Belanger, 354-4717.
This concert is made possi-
ble through the auspices of
the City of Southfield's
Cultural Arts Division of the
Parks and Recreation Depart-
ment, the Southfield Em-
bassy Suites Hotel and a
grant from the Michigan
Council for the Arts.

Kate Becker, daughter of
Barry and Elin Becker of
Huntington Woods, is appear-
ing in the Hilberry Theatre's
production of Peer Gynt, play-
ing now through March 1.
This epic fantasy is by Henrik
Ibsen.
Peer Gynt is written
around the central character,
Peer Gynt, and his quest to
find his own identity. With
his flamboyance, his roguish
variability, his innumerable
masks and emotions, he is an
immensely theatrical figure.
Although the play is well over
a century old, Peer wrestles
with profound questions still
facing humankind today.

JET To Perform

the Jonathan Pollard spy case
and examines the ethnics and
emotions involved in Israeli-
American relations.

day and Sunday evenings at
8 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2
