Explains Mr. Weinreb, "We integrate the world rhythms we have all absorbed to ex- pand the boundaries of con- temporary music." The result cannot be classified in a single musical format. That distinctiveness is what the group strives for and what fuels their sellout shows. Wayne Robins, New York / Newsday music critic, has compared their unique rhythm to that of the pop group The Police. Kolos band members bring to the group varied musical experiences. Their music is played on New York radio stations and college radio stations. The band has produced a few EPs (extended plays) cassettes which each contain three songs. National Public Radio terms their distinct sound "an exciting musical mix that reflects the varied influences of American life today." Mr. Weinreb says the fans that flock to a Kolos concert come to hear their music more than their message. While yarmulkes often dot the crowd, their "world music" appeals to music lovers of all ethnic backgrounds. Other band members are Joel Goodman on bass, drum- mer Marty Beller, guitarist Ken Talve, George Bendl on keyboard and back-up vocalist Amanda Homi. Mr. Weinreb terms their performance "a concert where there is space to dance." He adds, "We are going to dance and hope others will join us as well." ❑ -1 ENTERTAINMENT 1" Israeli Singer At Groves High Israeli singer Jo Amar will appear 8 p.m. Feb. 23 at Groves High School Auditorium.
