in-kind goods and services to community service organizations.
each week, we will publish requests for needed items. Persons
interested in helping to meet these needs should contact Miriam
!merman at The Jewish Community Council at 962-1880. Also,
organizations or groups in need of in-kind services should con-
tact The Jewish Community Council.

MOWER, VCR, ETC. The
Creative Arts Center of North
Oakland County is a vibrant
arts organization whose pur-
pose is to create arts education
within the community, to build
community in Pontiac and
North Oakland County. The
arts center is the only arts
organization in North Oakland
to offer programming for peo-
ple with special needs. Creative
Arts Center needs 5 folding
chairs, 10 linen tablecloths in a
dark color, 5 dish towels, a word
processor or small computer, a
large ladder, a large Rolodex
and cards, a snow shovel, a
lawn mower, a small television,
a VCR and camcorder and new
kitchen utensils.

PERSONAL GROOMING
ITEMS, SEWING MATERIALS,
ARTS MATERIALS, SMALL
GIFTS. Adult Well-Being Ser-
vices, is a private, non-profit
organization providing in-

novative social work and men-
tal health services for elderly,
mentally ill and developmental-
ly disabled adults throughout
Southeast Michigan. Services
are provided at centers where
clients participate in classes
and activity groups. They also
receive supportive services, in-
cluding information, referral,
counseling and therapy. Adult
Well-Being Services needs per-
sonal grooming items, sewing
materials, art materials and
small gifts for seniors.

CRAFT MATERIALS, DUR-
ABLE TOYS. Downriver Guid-
ance Clinic is a private, non-
profit mental health and
substance abuse services for
both children and adults, it of-
fers a 24-hour children's crisis
intervention service and several
other specialized services.
Downriver Guidance Clinic
needs craft materials for adult
day treatment programs and
durable toys for the children's
waiting rooms.

Kesher is the Hebrew word for
"link." The purpose of this
page will be to present a selec-
tion of opportunities which link
members of our community to
agencies and individuals that
can benefit from the energy, g
resources and spirit we
possess in abundance.

This weekly feature highlights some organizations in the Jewish
and general communities that rely on volunteers. Opportunities
for a nearly limitless range of volunteers will be highlighted.

Orchard Children's Services

Orchards Children's Ser-
vices is a child welfare agency
serving over 500 children in
their own homes, and in foster
homes.
Volunteers are needed to
provide services which direct-
ly benefit the children:
1. Playroom Assistants
2. Committee members to
operate a Children's Cloth-
ing Corner
3. Mentors for teens in resi-
dences
4. Education Advocacy Spe-
cialists to assist with secur-
ing school assistance in
Detroit Public Schools.
Skills needed:
— Playroom assistants must
like children and be avail-
able 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
— Mentors must be stable
individuals who can give
a lengthy commitment of
at least one year
— Education Advocacy Spe-
Specialists would preferably
have an education back-
ground, and be comfortable
meeting with school officials
and advocating for a child.
Estimated
time commitment:
Positions 1, 2 and 3: 3 to 4
hours per week. Position 4: 6 to
8 hours occasionally to follow
one or two children over a
period of a year (not in agency).

Leader Dogs for the Blind

Leader Dogs for the Blind
trains dogs to be guides for and
bring independence to the
blind. The Leader Dog Puppy
Program breeds and raises
pups to be formally trained for
guide dog work.
Volunteers are needed to
raise puppies in their homes for
one year, acting as host
families. The volunteers provide
love and caring for the pups,
and prepare them for formal
training.
