Announcing the Opening
Of Our New Location

"Generally, the media is for
the underdog and they view
the Palestinians the under-
dog," he said.
"Thus, all we see is Israel
soldiers shooting at kids
throwing rocks. Of course,
there is more to the story. But
the reporting goes beyond
that. Reporters tend to be
cynical and they like to op-
pose things American. The
media have also supported
the Sandanistas against the
contras and we have other ex-
amples."
The implication of media
reports, Mr. Kupelian said, is
that if Israel just relinquishes
the occupied territories,
"everything will be all right."
"But if you look at the PLO,
it really hasn't changed," he
said. "It still wants to destroy
Israel and then there are
more than 20 other Arab na-
tions with a similar objective.
We interviewed many Arab
officials but they all ended up
saying pretty much the same
things."
Mr. Kupelian does not
believe that the magazine's
product violates the jour-
malist's historic standard of
objectivity. "There is a dif-
ference between objectivity
and impartiality," he said.
He cited the example of
covering a rape, stating
reporters certainly need not
give equal sympathy to the
victim and the assailant.
Having reported facts in the
Israel-Arab conflict, facts
generally ignored in the
double-standard reporting of
the U.S. media, New Dmen-
sions found — as Israel's sup-
porters have maintained —
that Israel's role as a victim
has generally been ignored. ❑

Zubin Mehta
Flies To Israel

Tel Aviv (JPFS) — Zubin
Mehta, the Israel Philhar-
monic Orchestra's music di-
rector, arrived here unex-
pectedly Jan. 15 after a spur-
of-the-moment decision to fly
from Paris to Tel Aviv in-
stead of to New York where
he was due to rehearse the
New York Philharmonic.
"It was perhaps an
impetuous decision, but
when I waited in Paris for
the Concord flight, I sudden-
ly felt I would be flying in
the wrong direction.

"As I said in my cable to
the players in New York, I
was adopted by this country
more than 30 years ago and
this is where I belong at this
difficult time."
