Birmingham Community
House.
The three-session seminar,
presented by communications
specialist Barbara Halpern,
examines the privileges of in-
dividuality that helps singles
"make it on their own." Other
topics include techniques for
building relationships;
methods to increase con-
fidence and self-esteem and
ways to confront personal con-
cerns by evaluating roles,
relationships and sexuality.

Ford Rewards
Israeli Institute

New York (JTA) — The in-
novative "Children
Teaching Children" pro-
gram of the Givat Haviva
Institute of Israel has won a
second grant from the Ford
Foundation, it was announc-
ed here.
The grant, for $300,000
over three years, follows a
two-year $142,000 Ford
Foundation grant previously
awarded for the program,
which brings Jewish and
Arab junior high school
students together to study
each other's language.
Givat Haviva is Israel's
leading center for education,
training and research aimed
at advancing Jewish-Arab
relations, democratic values
and religious and cultural
pluralism.
Established in 1949, it at-
tracts over 40,000 people
each year to its multi-
cultural campus for classes,
workshops and encounter
sessions.
The "Children Teaching
Children" program, enter-
ing its fourth year, has an
enrollment of 1,400 students.
