The playwright takes on an
issue that is both personal
and political to black women:
beauty. She satirizes women's
pre-occupation with the
"right look," an attitude that
makes them easy objects for
exploitation.
In Paper Dolls, two aging
black beauty queens — Miss
Emanicpation 1930 and her
first runner-up, return fifty
years later to judge an inter-
national beauty contest. As
they wait for the contest to
begin, they play scenes from
their past, writing new en-
dings, moving freely between
the real and the imagined,
the past and the present.

Sets Programs

The Oakland Piano
Teachers Forum will begin its
program for 1991 with Stu-
dent Assembly 2:30 p.m. Jan.
20 at the home of Carol

perform a variety of musical
compositions.

Forum Members Jan. 25. The
speaker will be Dr. Steve

Players Guild
Does Comedy

The Players Guild of Dear-
born will continue its 1990-91
season with the Noel Coward
comedy, Blithe Spirit, the
story of novelist Charles Con-
domine, who invites a
medium into his home to per-
form a seance as research for
his latest novel. The spirit of
his first wife, Elvira, appears
during the seance and decides
to "move in" with the writer
and his second wife, Ruth.
The ensuing mayhem is
Coward at his best.
Blithe Spirit opens Jan. 18
and runs Jan. 19-20 and Jan.
24-26. All performances are
at 8 p.m. with the Jan. 20
matinee at 2:30 p.m.
