THE KOHENS INVITE YOU TO S EE.. ' Saturday afternoons for members. But some things haven't changed: a group of at- torneys and engineers con- tinue to play basketball at noon on Tuesdays. Fulgenzi, who has added a programming assistant, Michelle Haenick, to help with the increased load, said birthday parties had been offered only on weekdays at certain hours. "But who She's become acquainted with yarmulkes and she's picked up Yiddish terms such as shlep. wants a birthday party at 5 p.m. on a Tuesday?" asked Fulgenzi, who runs the par- ties on the weekends. "I'm packed," she said, noting JPM has eight to 10 parties a month now, corn- pared to two or three per month last year. "It's wonderful." The parties average about 20 youngsters who utilize the gym area for games and a classroom for cake and ice cream. Families from the Oak Park-Southfield- Huntington Woods area pro- vide the bulk of the parties, but some come from as far as Farmington Hills. Edie Rubin of Farmington Hills said she chose JPM over Maple-Drake because "It was much less expen- sive" — $40 compared to $110 for facility and staffing. She said the difference was JPM agreed to set up a party and supervise, but leave games and programs to her. Fulgenzi, who is Catholic, said she's learned a lot about Judaism since joining the JCC. She's become ac- quainted with yarmulkes, she said, and she's picked up Yiddish terms such as shlep — as in, "We shlep the kids to Maple-Drake for swimm- ing during winter break." "Shlep — I like that word," she said. She also doesn't mind sometimes working seven days a week. "I feel it's wor- th it," she said. "The pro- grams have been expanded and I feel people here appre- ciate the time and effort I've put into it." With the gym newly air- conditioned and expansion of the phys-ed department on the drawing-board, Fulgen- zi feels "This building has the potential. "This neighborhood is here to stay. It's very tight. And since it's growing, why can't we give the residents the services they want?" B'nai B'rith Creates Sports Hall Of Fame Washington, D.C. — B'nai B'rith is establishing an American Jewish "Sports Hall of Fame" at its B'nai B'rith Klutznick Museum in the nation's capital. Its first honorees will be in- ducted at a dinner May 16 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington. The inductees are Mel Allen, Sid Luckman, Arnold "Red" Auerbach, Abe Pollin, Al Rosen, Shirley Povich, Dick Savitt, Dolph Schayes, Mark Spitz, Sandy Koufax, Hank Greenberg, Ed- die Gottlieb and Benny Leonard. Radio-TV personali- ty Larry King will host the event. The museum is also produc- ing an exhibit spanning 200 years that will emphasize Jewish contributions to sports. The exhibit will in- clude memorabilia of great Jewish athletes as well as audio/visual screenings of their career highlights. The exhibit is supervised by Dr. Harvey Frommer, biographer of Nolan Ryan, Tony Dorsett and Red Holzman, who serves as ex- ecutive producer. Co- chairmen of the Hall of Fame program are Alvin I. Miller and Lloyd E. Raport. Murray H. Shusterman is chairman of B'nai B'rith's museum and art committee. Pickup By Roth Among Highlights The televised coverage of Mark Roth's conversion of the 7-10 split in 1980 is among the highlights of the Pro Bowlers tour, which began its 30th season Jan. 12 on AC Sports — the second longest live sports series on network telvision, after NCAA football. At the recent Bowling Players Championships in Taylor, Roth finished 16th and earned 12,400. Marshall Holman finished sixth, winn- ing $5,500.
