State, Congress
Cite Slomovitz
The announcement in
November that Editor
Emeritus Philip Slomovitz
was discontinuing his week-
ly Purely Commentary
column in The Jewish
News after 70 years of
publication has brought
tributes from several state
legislators.
Rep. Dave Honigman (R-
West Bloomfield) issued a
special tribute to Mr.
Slomovitz. In a personal
letter to the 94-year-old
editor, Rep. Honigman
wrote, "Your long and pro-
ductive life, filled so
resplendently with insight
and caring for your fellow
man, is an inspiration to
all."
Rep. William Broomfield
(R-Birmingham) placed Mr.
Slomovitz' final Purely
Commentary (Nov. 30) and
The Jewish News article
(Dec. 7) highlighting Mr.
Slomovitz' career, into the
Congressional Record. In a
letter to Mr. Slomovitz, Rep.
Broomfield also lauded his
career, adding, "In a 42-year
career in politics, I have met
perhaps as many as 100,000
people . . . but I have met
few, if any, who have lived
life so fully as you have."
