died Jan. 10.
Mr. Twigg was a self-
employed owner of a parts
specialty company that sup-
plied parts to the auto and
truck industry. He was a
member of the Crescent
Shrine Club, B'nai B'rith,
Pisgah Lodge, Downtown
Synagogue, Michigan Truck-
ing Association and the 100
Club.
Mr. Twigg leaves his
brother and sister-in-law,
Walter and Helen Zwig of
Toronto, Ont.; nieces and
nephews.

Dr. David Jacknow, 69, of
Bloomfield Hills, died Jan.
12.
Dr. Jacknow was a member
of the Jewish Vocational Ser-
vice Board of Directors,
Jewish Educational Loan Ser-
vice, Technion University and
the Shalom Aleichem
Institute.
He leaves his wife Muriel;
son, Dr. Alan of Del Rae,
Calif.; daughters and sons-in-
law, Lisa and Frank Ellias of
Farmington Hills, Amy
Jacknow and L. Jeffrey
Zauberman of Southfield; two
grandsons.
Joel E. Weingarten
Dr. Joel E. Weingarten, a
Birmingham ophthamologist
who was a supporter of
Jewish causes, the arts and
the pro-choice movement,
died Jan. 9. He was 52.
Dr. Weingarten, a graduate
of the University of Michigan
and graduate of the Wayne
State University Medical
School, was on staff at Sinai
Hospital.
A member of the American
Academy of Ophthamologists,
Dr. Weingarten enjoyed work-
ing closely with medical
residents. A staunch sup-
porter of a woman's right to
choice, he helped raise funds
for several abortion rights
groups, including the
Michigan Abortion Rights Ac-
tion League and the Religious

Israel Tourism
Dropped In 1990
Tel Aviv (JTA) — Tourism
to Israel was down 4 percent
in 1990 from the previous
year, according to the
Tourism Ministry.
There were a total of
1,367,800 foreign visitors,
most of whom came in the
first half of the year, before
the Persian Gulf crisis
started on Aug. 2, the min-
istry said.
December was the worst
month. There were 63,000
tourist arrivals, 42 percent
fewer than in December
1989.
