HOW MUCH WILL BANK LEND?

QUESTION: My family
income is $30,000 a year. How
much of a mortgage can I
expect a bank to lend me?

DOLL
REPAIR

ANSWER: If you go by the

rule-of-thumb guidelines
(25%-28% of gross income), you
would normally expect to pay
up to a limit of $625 per month
on your mortgage. But this is a
very rough rule of thumb. You
may qualify for more or less
depending on other variables.
There is more than your
income to consider. What is
your past credit history? What
amount of debt do you now owe?
What is the appraised value of
the property? The mortgage
decision will be based on the
combination.
