Joy Emery Gallery
Hosts Goody Exhibit

British-born figurative ar-
tist, Dick Goody, will exhibit
new pictures at the Joy
Emery Gallery through Jan.
26. Mr. Goody vitalizes the
flat picture plane through his
use of brushwork and
geometric forms. His brand of
Expressionism is charged by
vibrant colors and boldly
outlined shapes.
A recent trip to Mexico pro-
duced a series of "retablos"
(paintings on metal), several
of which deal with the illu-
sion of intersecting picture
planes. Others continue the
study of one of several ongo-
ing motifs — a profile of a

black-haired man against
various backdrops. Mr. Goody
states, "The imagery in my
painting functions as a vehi-
cle from which forms are
molded; specific objects func-
tion as shapes from which the
fabric of the painting is
made."
The Joy Emery Gallery is
located at 131 Kercheval
Avenue, "On the Hill" in
Grosse Pointe Farms and ex-
hibits modern and contem-
porary 20th century art in all
media. The gallery is open
Tuesday through Saturday
from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.;
Thursdays until 8 p.m.
