Via bus through Canada, campers take a ferry boat from Prince Rupert, British Columbia, to Skagway, Alaska, and follow the Shilkoot Pass, which goes into the Alaskan interior. Trip begins at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. Tuition for the 45-day trip is $2700. Israel Plus Outdoor Adventure, takes co-eds entering grade 12 and college, on a 32-day bus and camping trips through Israel. Included in the program, is a five-day camel trip in the desert, a four-day cross country hike from the Mediterranean Sea to Lake Kinneret, and sightseeing in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Eilat. Tuition is $2950. Western Teen Trips, are offered for co-eds entering grades 10-12. Two bus trips, each lasting 34 days, take campers across the country, stopping at several sights, in- cluding Yellowstone National Park, Zion National Park and the Grand Tetons. Kids camp out in the parks, and recrea- tional activities include hik- ing, caving, white water raf- ting and mountain biking. The trips begin at the JCC in West Bloomfield. Tuition is $1785, which in- cludes transportation, meals, and sightseeing. MISCELLANEOUS JEWISH SPONSORED CAMPS IN MICHIGAN Habonim Camp Tavor, is sponsored by Habonim Drof Youth Movement and is located on a 68-acre campsite in Three Rivers. Two three- and-a-half-week sessions for co-eds ages 10-17 are offered. In a kibutz-type atmosphere, the camp concentrates on Zionism and Israel. Blend of Judaic studies, Hebrew in- struction, sports, arts and crafts, Israeli dancing, canoe trips and swimming are of- fered. The kitchen is kosher. Camp Raanana, located in Ann Arbor, is a day camp which features overnight camping trips to state parks, along with a full-day camping itinerary. Open to youngsters from the ages of 5-15, the pro- gram includes swimming, arts and crafts, weekly excur- sions to special places of in- tersts such as the Toledo Zoo, Impressions 5 Museum in Lansing and the GM Robotics Plant in Flint. The program is on-going, divided into two- week sessions. On Fridays, there is an Oneg Shabbat and challah baking. Early morning and late afternoon day care is available. JEWISH CLIENTELE CAMPS IN MICHIGAN Although the following four camps are private and not sponsored by a Jewish organization, the majority of their campers are from the Detroit metropolitan Jewish community. Maplehurst, located in Kewadin in northern Michigan, offers a two-week session for beginning campers and two four-week sessions for co-eds ages 7-17. Situated on a 400-acre campsite with an 80-acre spring-fed private lake, the camp offers swimm- ing instruction, sailing, ten- nis, water skiing, scuba div- ing, horseback riding, arts and crafts, science, computers and drama. Tuition is $975 for two- week sessions $1800 for four- weeks, and the camp is ac- credited by the American Camping Association. For more information call Lawrence Cohen at 647-2646. Sea Gull, located on Lake Charlevoix in northern Michigan, offers two four- week sessions and_ one eight- week sessions for co-eds ages 7-16. A special two-week ses- sion is offered to first and se- cond graders. Activities in- clude sailing, tennis, water skiing, arts, drama, biking, canoeing, and overnights. Tanuga, located in nor- thern Michigan 30 miles east of Traverse City, is open to co- eds ages 6-15. Swimming, ten- nis, water skiing, wind surf- ing, canoeing, sailing, horseback riding, mountain biking, field games, archery, guitar, photography, aerobics, arts and crafts and a nature program are offered. Field trips to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Mackinac Island are on the agenda. The younger set can camp out for 3-4 days in nearby Michigan -
