Benefit Concert
At Masonic

Leonard Smith will conduct
the 60-piece Detroit Concert
Band in a benefit concert Jan.
13, at the Masonic Temple
Theatre. As a fund-raiser for
the 1990 $5 million renova-
tion of the theatre, the even-
ing will include champagne
and hors d'oeuvres before the
performance from 6-7 p.m.
with an afterglow following
the concert. Proceeds from
tickets will go towards the
cost of the restoration.
The recent renovation of the
theatre included restoration
of the theatre's seats, installa-
tion of more than 4,000
square yards of carpeting in
the auditorium, extensive
refurbishing and painting of
all public areas and a new
roof for the historic building.
Additionally, the 17,000
square foot Fountain Ball-
room, located on the lower
level of the auditorium, was
re-designed.
The Detroit Concert Band,
directed for 44 years by
Leonard Smith, will perform
a program of popular marches
saluting several historic com-
posers including Ludwig von
Beethoven, Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart and John
Philip Sousa.
For ticket information, call
832-7100.
