Sets Calendar

Jewish Students
Plan Events

The Hillel Foundation at
University of Michigan will
host the following programs.
On Jan. 12, the Jewish Law
Students Union will hold a
Back To School Bash from 9
p.m.-1 a.m. in the Lawyer's
Club Lounge in the Law
Quad. There will be food,
music and fun! This event is
open to everyone. There is a
charge. That evening, Hill
Street Cinema will show
Blazing Saddles at 8 p.m. and
9:45 p.m.
On Jan. 14, the Progressive
Zionist Caucus will show
David Shipler's film, Arab
and Jew: Wounded Spirits in
the Promised Land, at 7:30
p.m. The film will be follow-
ed by a discussion.
On Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m., the
Jewish Feminist Group will
hold a mass meeting. For in-
formation, call Hillel,

On Jan. 17, from 5 p.m.-7
p.m. the Hillel social commit-
tee will hold a happy hour at
Dominick's.
On Jan. 17, Hill Street
Cinema will show Young
Frankenstein at 8 p.m. and 10
p.m.

The Jewish Students
Organization/Hillel at
Oakland University will hold
the following events.
The series, "Ethics, Public
and Personal," with a panel
discussion on "Is There More
to life than an Academic Ma-
jor?" will be noon Jan. 15 in
Oakland Center. Panelists
will include John Urice, dean,
College of Arts and Sciences;
and Tonja Long, student
representative to the Aca-
demic Conduct Committee.
Moderator will be Carole
Crum, assistant director of
Academic Services and
General Studies.
Prof. Beverley Geltner,
education, will lecture on
"Jewish Identity: Dilemmas
and Challenges," noon Jan.
16 in the Fireside Lounge.

Meets Tradition" weekend
conference on intermarriage,

The Celebration of Jewish
Arts series will present
Lawrence Kushner 7:30 p.m.
Jan. 19 in the Irwin Green
Auditorium. Lawrence
Kushner is a contemporary
Jewish mystic. He has written
The Invisible Chariot; The
River of Light; Honey From
the Rock; and The Book of Let-
ters. There is a charge.
Students Fighting Anti-
Semitism will sponsor a trip
to the Holocaust Memorial
Center in West Bloomfield on
Jan. 20. For information, call

The Hillel Orthodox Mi-
nyan will present a three part
series with Rabbi Avraham
Jacobovitz, director of the
Jewish Learning Network of
Michigan. The first part of
the series will be 5 p.m. Jan.
20 at Hillel. In his talk, "The
Only Obstacle," Rabbi
Jacobovitz will explore issues
of success and failure, aspira-
tion and achievement, in the
modern world. The discus-
sion, open to all, will be held
over a deli dinner. The second
part of the series, 7:30 p.m.
Jan. 30 at Hillel will be "Mar-
riage and Intermarriage."
Rabbi Jacobovitz will discuss
this issue from a traditional
Orthodox Torah perspective.
Refreshments will be served.
The third part of the series
will be held 7:30 p.m. on Feb.
6 at Hillel, titled "It's Not
Foreign."

Machon L'Torah
Dinner, Discussion

Machon Mbrah, the Jewish
Learning Network of
Michigan, in conjunction
with the Orthodox Minyan of
Hillel will present an educa-
tional evening 5 p.m. Jan. 20
at the Hillel Student Center,
1429 Hill St., Ann Arbor.
The program will include a
deli dinner followed by a
discussion entitled: "The On-
ly Obstacle on the Road to
Success, Myths and Realities:
Defining Success in Our Con-
temporary Society" led by
Rabbi Avraham Jacobovitz,
director of Machon L'Torah.

Metro Hillel
Holds Conference

A conference on Love and
Tradition: Intermarriage Bet-
ween Jews and Christians
will be sponsored by
MetroDetroit Hillel Jan.
19-20 at Milan Conference
Center outside Windsor,
Canada.
College students from
Michigan, Ohio and Canada
are invited to attend. Inter-
marriage topics will be
covered by showing movies,
having discussions and par-
ticipating in skits.
Costs include lodging, food
and fun. For reservations by
