Americana Concert
In Ann Arbor

The Ann Arbor Symphony
Orchestra will welcome the
return of Carl St. Clair 8 p.m.
Jan. 19 at the Michigan
Theater. The performance
will include Copland's Old
American Folk Songs, Har-
rison's Marriage at the Eiffel
Tower and Dvorak's New
World Symphony. Joining the
symphony will be Leslie
Guinn, professor of voice at
the University of Michigan
School of Music. He will sing
many of Copland's folk
favorites, including "Ching-a-
Ring Chaw" and "At The
River." Mr. Guinn had the op-
portunity to perform this
work with Aaron Copland
conducting.
Harrison's Marriage at the
Eiffel Tower, originally a
ballet, was re-composed by
Mr. Harrison. It is a suite for
orchestra and narrators. This
piece evokes the bubbly, pop
French style of the 1920's
with Western instruments.
Narrators will be Beverly
Pooley of Gilbert and Sullivan
fame and Tom Hemingway
from WUOM.
Dvorak's New World Sym-
phony, written in 1893,
evokes Indian and black folk
melodies.
For ticket information, call
the Michigan Theater,
