The Oakland University
Department of Music,
Theatre and Dance has been
invited to compete in the
American College Theatre
regional Festival with their
production of The Boy Friend
written by Sandy Wilson and
directed by Michael Gillespie,
head of the OU Theatre pro-
gram. The Boy Friend, a roar-
ing twenties musical, was
first presented at OU in
March 1990.
Traveling to the festival
will be 45 OU students in-
cluding 35 members of The
Boy Friend company.
A benefit performance of
The Boy Friend will be
presented 8 p.m. Jan. 7 at the
OU Varner Studio Theatre.
Proceeds from the benefit per-
formance will enable
students of The Boy Friend
company to travel to the fest-
ival, as well as participate in
the workshops offered. Sug-
gested donation for the
benefit is $10 and reserva-
tions may be made by calling
the OU box office, 370-3013.
The American College
Theatre Festival is held to
provide recognition and be a
showcase for outstanding un-
iversity and college theatre. It
is supported by the Kennedy
Corporate Fund, the United
States Department of Educa-
tion and the Ryder System.
Previous OU productions that
have been invited to compete
at the festival are Gorey
Stories in 1987 and Jeririgg
in 1981, which advanced to
the finals in Washington, D.C.

America. Ms. Parker's flair
with language, eye for
criticism and wit brought her
to the height of American let-
ters and created a personali-
ty that lives on in popular
memory.
