Film Series
On Israel
Adat Shalom Synagogue's
ninth annual film series will
present three Israeli films, in
an exploration of "A Lens on
Israel: A Society Through Its
Cinema." The four-part series
will begin 7 p.m. Jan. 13 with
Eric Goldman, founder and
president of Ergo Films, and
film critic Dan Greenberg at
the synagogue.
Mr. Goldman will introduce
Israeli cinema and illustrate
his talk with film clips from
Israeli movies.
The series will continue
with The Big Dig, Fictitious
Marriage, and Late Summer
Blues, with commentary from
Mr. Greenberg.
The Big Dig, folk comedy by
Ephraim Kishon, will be
shown Jan. 20. A view of
Israeli society today will be
seen in Fictitious Marriage
Feb. 3. The series will con-
clude with Late Summer
Blues, a nostalgic look at
Israel's age of innocence dur-
ing the 1960s on Feb. 10.
The programs are spon-
sored by the synagogue's
Adult Study Commission and
are open to the community at
no charge.
Mr. Goldman holds a Ph.D.
in cinema studies from New
York University and is a
former film curator for the
YIVO Institute.
Mr. Greenberg, a member of
the Adult Study Commission,
teaches film history/apprecia-
tion and filmmaking at
Oakland Community College.
