and location of said vehicle on
a computer map screen," says
Barnet Fagel, public safety
liaison manager for Teletrac.
"At that point, we initiate two
phone calls: one to the ap-
propriate police department
depending on where the vehi-
cle is and one to the car
owner."
As of the first week in
December, corporate fleets
were included in the system.
By January, says the com-
pany, the public will be free to
purchase the system which is
said to cost $650 for the hard-
ware, plus installation and a
$10 to $15 monthly monitor-
ing fee. Detroit will be includ-
ed in the system within the
next two years.

ed out your car to friends or

now also work through a car's
cellular phone. .

tinuing through the 1991
model, the Oldsmobile
Toronado Trofeo offers a
Motorola car phone for $995
that is housed in the car's
console. This phone has the
ability to notify the car owner
should tampering occur.
"You enter the phone
number where you will be,
whether it is at work or
home," says Doug Stott,
Toronado engineering pro-
duct manager. "The next time
the car is started and a 4-digit
disarming code is not punch-
ed in within 30 seconds, the
car will call the
preprogrammed number."
The car phone will make a
buzzing sound into your
phone to indicate a potential
theft. If your number is busy,
the car continues to call you
until it has succeeded.
