She became an expert on health policy issues, serving on commissions, and was an informal adviser to government agencies and congressional committees. She has published articles on health economics and health policy. Last Feb. 5, Dr. Wilensky was sworn in as administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration after being nominated by President Bush and approved by the U.S. Senate. As head of the HCFA, she supervises the spending of $155 billion of federal funds in the 1991 fiscal year for the 60 million elderly and poor Americans covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
