Artist Series Features Harpist A Detroit native and har- pist who has performed with major symphony orchestras will return 3 p.m. Jan. 13 with the Mallarme Chamber Players of Durham, N.C. The group is presented by the American Artists Series at Kingswood Auditorium on the Cranbrook campus. The harpist is Jacquelyn Bartlett, daughter of former Detroit Symphony Orchestra harpist Mary Bartlett of Bir- mingham. Her performance here will be with Jonathan Bagg, violist, and Anna Lud- wig Wilson, flutist. All are members of Mallarme Chamber Players, named for Stephane Mallarme", French poet and critic, famous for his in- novative evening salons. The program will include a trio by Arnold Bax, variations on a Welsh harp tune by Jan Bach, and sonatas by Carmen Petra-Basacopol and Claude Debussy. Chamber Artists At Garden Concert The Detroit Chamber Ar- tists will appear in Southfield's Concerts In The Garden Series 11:30 a.m. Jan. 13. This group is comprised of three members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Ervin Monroe, principal flutist; Don Baker, principal oboist; and John Thurman, cellist, along with Fontaine Laing, pianist and harpsichordist. Ms. Laing is on the faculty of the In- stitute of Music and Dance. Their repertoire on Jan. 13 will include Bach, Debussy, Johann J. Quantz, Pepusch, Fash. Repertory Theatre Does 'Joe Rimer' Woodie King, producing director of the New Federal Theatre in New York, has been selected by the Detroit Repertory Theatre to direct the Repertory's next produc- tion, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, by Pulitzer Prize winn- ing playwright, August Wilson.
