Freud Lecture,
Exhibit Planned

Parents' Institute
Offers TWo Classes

"Freud's Moses: Orientalist
and Psychoanalytic Perspec-
tives" will be discussed at 2
p.m. Jan. 6 at Temple Beth El.
The lecture is co-sponsored by
Temple Beth El, the
Michigan Psychoanalytic
Foundation and the Center
for Judaic Studies, Wayne
State University.
It will feature Dr. Harold
Blum, executive director of
the Freud Archives, New
York, and clinical professor of
psychiatry at New York
University School of Medicine
as well as Charles
Krahmalkov, professor of
Near Eastern Studies,
University of Michigan.
An exhibit, "The Sigmund
Freud Antiquities:
Fragments From a Buried
Past," will be displayed. The
exhibit features 65 selections
from Freud's private collec-,
tion of ancient artifacts along
with books and prints from
his personal library. It can be
viewed at the Kelsey Museum
of Archaeology, University of
Michigan from June 28-Aug.
17, 1991.
Dr. Nancy Kulish, co-chair
of Antiquities Acquisitions
and chairperson of the
Multidisciplinary Committee
of the Michigan Psycho-
analytic Foundation, chairs
the event. There is no charge.

The Jewish Parents In-
stitute, an affiliate of the
Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit, an-
nounces two classes.
The Development of Jewish
Law, touches on the Torah,
Mishnah, Gemara, Mishnah
Torah, Schulchan Aruch, and
Mishna Breura. The legal
relationship of men and
women, Jewish law and
modern technology, medicine
and abortion will be discuss-
ed by Yehudit Rabinowitz, the
JPI's Talmud/Torah special-
ist. Sessions will take place at
11:15 a.m. in Room 129 of the
Maple-Drake building on
Sundays from Jan. 6 to Feb.
24. There is a fee.
Beginning Hebrew for
adults and children will take
place at 12:30 p.m. in Room
326 of the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center
on Sundays from Jan. 20 to
May 5. The instructor is
Shari Kaurman. There is a
fee.

Machon L'Torah, the Jewish
Learning Network of
Michigan, will hold a lunch
and learn at 12:30 p.m. Jan.
7 at The Jewish News office in
Southfield.
This program, led by Rabbi
Avraham Jacobovitz, director
of Machon L'Torah, will in-
clude a discussion on Jewish
law using Maimonides text.
No previous Jewish education
is necessary.
There is no charge. Reserva-

A conversational Spanish
class will begin at 10 a.m.
Jan. 5 and will continue to

Rites of Passage: Religious,

Dr. Bornstein serves on the
staffs of Sinai Hospital,

and Lafayette Clinic.
