THE MANDELBAUMS
Young Israel of Oak-
Woods honored longtime
members Sol and Barbara
Mandelbaum at its 38th
anniversary banquet, held
at the synagogue.
- Oak Park Mayor
Charlotte Rothstein read
a proclamation proclaiming
Dec. 9 Sol and Barbara
Mandelbaum Day. The
Mandelbaums have resided
in the city since 1962.
The Mandelbaums'
daughters Ilene Cahan
and
Jenny Mitchell
presented an illustrated
tribute to their parents
and read greetings from
Sol and Barbara's son,
David Mandelbaum who
lives in Israel. The con-
gregation presented the cou-
ple with a scroll decorated by
master of ceremonies
Lawrence Horowitz ,
chairman of the synagogue
board.
Spotted in the crowd were:
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Karlin,
Dr. Lawrence and Dr.
Helen Brown, Mr. and
Mrs. Morris Prostak and
Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Braunstein.
Also present at the
Mandelbaum tribute were
Yeshivat Akiva Headmaster
Rabbi Zev Shimansky,
Young Israel of Southfield
Rabbi Elimelech Gold-
berg and his wife, Ruthi
Goldberg, B'nai Moshe
Cantor Louis Klein and
Young Israel of Greenfield
Rabbi Reuven Drucker.

MERKAZ BANQUET
The Merkaz, the laymen's
association of the Council of
Orthodox Rabbis, held its
10th anniversary banquet
with guest speaker Rabbi
Nathan Greenblatt of
Memphis, Tenn.
Rabbi Leizer Levin, pres-
ident of the Vaad Harabonim,
delivered greetings, while
Rabbi Mordechai
Wolmark, kashrut director
for the Vaad, introduced the
speaker.
Among the projects of the
Merkaz are the KosherGram
newsletter and the local
Kashrut Hotline. Later this
month, the organization will
publish a community direc-
tory listing information on
many area synagogues,
schools and Jewish study
opportunities.
Dinner participants in-
cluded Mr. and Mrs.
Simon Kresch, Meir
Hennes, Mr. and Mrs.
Ithamar Koenigsberg. ❑
