Promenade Of Hope

T

he third annual
"Promenade of Hope"
benefit for the Haven,
Oakland County's only
shelter for physically and
sexually abused women and
children, was held on Dec. 12
at the Troy Marriott hotel
with over 450 patrons. The
honorary chairpersons were
SuSu and Bob Sosnick
and Lynn and Isiah
Thomas. Guest commen-
tators were David "Ber-
nard" Hermelin and John
"Spider" Salley.
Debi Cain, executive di-
rector of the Haven, corn-
mended the event committee
which met every week for
the last six months to plan
the benefit. Ms. Cain ex-
plained that awareness is
increasing about the extent
of domestic violence, but
there are many people who
do not realize there is a place
for help. "It is an ongoing
effort to let the community
know we exist," said Ms.
Cain.
Kathy Wilson Fink, a
Haven volunteer, helped
plan the event and also
works on incoming calls to
the crisis line providing
emotional support and in-
formation about assistance.
Barbara Weiner, a Bloom-
field Hills therapist, is a
member of the board of di-
rect or s . "It's made .a
tremendous impact in the
community and as the de-
mand grows, the agency
grows," said Ms. Weiner.
After the cocktail hour and
dinner, guests viewed a

video with drawings from
the children at the Haven.
All the drawings were of sad
children with scared faces
and teary eyes. One child
wrote "Help me" on his
sketch.
The audience then viewed
a celebrity fashion show
with clothes from the posh
Birmingham store, Linda

Barbara Weiner and
Kathy Wilson Fink

Dresner. Owner Linda
Dresner said this is the se-
cond year she has worked
with the Haven and is very
excited to be part of this
benefit. To complement the
European fashions, New
York deejay and former
Detroiter Anita Sarko
provided the runway music.
Some of the celebrity
models included: Jeannie
Dubin, Suzy Farbman,
Linda Charfoos, Linda
Goldman, Myrna Par-
trich, Tamara Friedman
and SuSu Sosnick. Some of
