French Aid
To Israel

Paris (JTA) — The leader
of a delegation of 400 French
Jews just returned from
Israel has asked France to
help the Jewish state on a
humanitarian basis to over-
come the economic problems
arising from the mass im-
migration of Soviet Jews.
The appeal to Prime Min-
ister Michel Rocard was
made by Jean Kahn, presi-
dent of the Representative
Council of French Jewish
Organizations. Mr. Rocard
said it would be given very
careful consideration.
Mr. Kahn also asked the
French government to pur-
sue the struggle against
racism and anti-Semitism in
all its forms, especially the
resurgence of anti-Semitism.
The Jewish leader asked
the prime minister for an of-
ficial statement on the
desecration of the historic
Jewish cemetery in Carpen-
tras in southern France last
May by unknown vandals.

leynu, an adult Jew-
ish education group,
is expected to make
local history of sorts this
weekend when it moves its
offices to new quarters in the
Village of Franklin.
The organization plans to
move from the Manufac-
turers Southfield Tower to a
building at 32712 Franklin
Road, thus becoming the
first Jewish organization to
be headquartered in the
Franklin community, accor-
ding to Rabbi Alon Tolwin,
Aleynu director.
The site, loaned at no
charge to Aleynu by a donor
who requested anonymity,
will consist of 900 square
feet of office space. But, be-
cause of a lack of room,
Aleynu will continue to hold
its classes at various homes
and offices around the com-
munity. The Franklin space
will be used for ad-
ministrative purposes only.
Aleynu, Partnership for
Jewish Adult Education,
began five years ago in
Rabbi Tolwin's Oak Park
home. It shared quarters
most of the last year with
the Schlussel, Lifton law
firm which recently merged
with another firm. 0
