Chamber Group
Sets Competition
The Lyric Chamber Or-
chestra will hold a Mozart
Youth Competition as part of
its commemoration of the
200th anniversary of Mozart's
death. Set for late April, (date
to be announced) this com-
petition will provide for
talented students to be
recognized, promoted and
presented in concert with pro-
fessional musicians.
Intrumentalists invited to
compete with specially
selected repertoire are piano,
violin, flute, clarinet, French
horn and string quartet.
Competitors are required to
play from memory and to pro-
vide their own accompanists
for the competition.
Youth between 14 and 17
years are invited to apply by
Jan. 31, 1991. Applications
will be accepted without
regard to race, color, religion,
national origin, age, sex or
handicap. The entry fee is $10
for quartets and $5 for other
instruments.
Among the five judges for
the Mozart Youth Competi-
tion will be music critics John
Guinn and Avigdor Zaromp,
as well as Dr. Peter Schoen-
bach, chairman of the Music
Department at Wayne State
University. Judges will award
one first prize of $300 and two
honorable mention prizes of
$100 each. Winners will also
be featured in a gala perfor-
mance in autumn 1991 with
the Lyric Chamber Ensemble.
For applications and infor-
mation, call the Lyric
Chamber Ensemble, 357-111.
