AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY' eventh-grade Hillel Day School students held a Chanukah par- ty with JARC residents at the school on the evening of Dec. 4. "The JARC residents en- joy meeting the kids and like the interaction," said Bonnie Cohn, volunteer service coordinator for JARC. On this evening the students and residents made paper menorot and dreidels. According to Susan Zaks , upper school coor- dinator for Hillel Day School, the students will be meeting with the residents one day per month as part of their community service program during their bar/bat mitzvah year. Sharon Schwartz, whose son Scott attends Hillel, believes the project is an in- valuable experience. "This will give the children an awareness they need in life," said Mrs Schwartz. Hillel Hebrew teacher Pnina Basse says the chil- dren prepare for the visits in the classroom when they discuss Jewish values. Some of the Hillel seventh grade students include: Mitchell Zeff, Ari Newman, Jeremie Krass, David Singer, Lauren Rosman, Dee Dee Kalo, Franki Berg, Molly Harris and Tara Strickstein. S HOLIDAY HOMES The Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall Volunteer Brenda Pangborn: DSOH president-elect. Council presented the 31st annual holiday home tour with a Bloomfield home dec- . orated for Chanukah. "This is the first year we have made a point to change the name to a holiday home tour," said Brenda Pangborn, president-elect of the DSOH council. Mrs. Pangborn said the group wanted to be more ecumenical. Patrons on the home tour were greeted with educa- tional literature about the meaning of Chanukah and the aroma of latkes. The table included dreidels, menorot and Chanukah motif paper plates. Council member Carol Roberts baked a cookie menorah for the occasion. All around the house the owner displayed Judaica, much donated from friends
