Open champion Pete Sampras
in the Chrysler/Plymouth
Kings of Tennis Classic at the
Palace of Auburn Hills, 7:30

Ranked No. 20 in the world,
23-year-old Krickstein was
the youngest player in history
to attain a Top 10 ranking on
the Associated Tennis Profes-
sionals computer in 1984.
As champion of the 1983
Israel Tennis Center Classic
in Tel Aviv, he defeated
Henrik Sundstrom to become
the youngest player to win a
Grand Prix tournament. That
same year, he also defeated
Vitas Gerulaitis at the U.S.

male player to reach the
fourth round.
Krickstein was on the

team this year and 1984-87.
The 19-year-old Sampras
defeated Andre Agassi 6-4,
6-3, 6-2, in the U.S. Open
finals in September to become

to win that prestigious tour-
nament. In 1989, he advanc-
ed to the U.S. Open round of
16, which included a victory
over defending champion
Mats Wilander.
Sampras, of Rancho Palos
Verdes, Calif., is ranked No. 5
