Ardenshensky, and six other
characters. Mr. Frieder is a
30-year veteran of the stage
and screen. In the JET perfor-
mance, he recreates the role
he played when A Rosen By
Any Other Name premiered
in March 1986 at the
American Jewish Theatre in
New York.
Born in Germany, Mr.
Frieder was trained in Bern,
Switzerland, by Marguritte
Schell, (mother of Maximilian
Schell). He says Rosen
"is very touching and
funny, and at the same time
it's poignant because the
character of the nephew
comes back from the war
shell-shocked. And he
becomes central to the fami-
ly as a supporter of the young
boy."
In Mr. Frieder's first
theatrical role in 1958, he
portrayed Anne Frank's
father in The Diary of Anne
Frank. His first Broadway ap-
pearance was in 1960 in The
Wall with George C. Scott.
His film credits include parts
in Woody Allen's Love and
Death, as well as Crimes and
Misdemeanors and Costa-
Gavras' Music Box.
Although he has enjoyed
critical success, the challenge
of acting is what lures Mr.
Frieder back to the stage. "It
gives you life, really. I'm
rather low-keyed usually. But
on stage when you are on, it's
a challenge to deliver the
goods, to give enough every
time so that the audience
isn't cheated."
A Rosen By Any Other
Name will be previewed at
reduced prices this weekend.
Regular performances run
from Dec. 19 through Jan. 6.
All performances are on
Wednesday, Thursday, Satur-
day and Sunday evenings at
8 p.m. Sunday matinees begin
at 2 p.m.
Performances will be in the
Aaron Deroy Theatre at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center. For ticket in-
formation, call the JET office,
788-2900.

Michigan Radio
Chanukah Program

Traditions of h-Olidays past
and present will come
together as Michigan Radio
broadcasts a special program
for Chanukah.
"A Voice Still Heard," will
be broadcast 1 p.m. Dec. 16. It
is a program of "early"
Jewish music, especially
music of medieval and
Renaissance Jewish com-
posers. The New Orleans-
based Musica da Camera will
explore the music.
The program will be broad-
cast on WUOM, 91.7 FM.
