Dr. Milton Lappin, 77, of
Southfield, died Dec. 9.
Dr. Lappin was an ortho-
dontist in Detroit and
Southfield for 50 years. He
was a member of the Michi-
gan Sports Hall of Fame for
Handball, the Alpha Omega
Dental Fraternity, and a
faculty member of the
University of Detroit School
of Orthodontics. Dr. Lappin
was a captain in the United
States Army during World
War II.
He leaves his wife, Ethel;
brothers and sisters-in-law,
Dr. Irwin and Fan of South-
field, Sam and Helen of Hun-
tington Woods.
Monte Meskin
Monte J. Meskin, 80, of
Clearwater, Fla., died Dec. 6.
Mr. Meskin was an at-
torney, a member of the
Michigan Bar Association
and served as Judge of Royal
Oak Municipal Court. In
Detroit he was an active
member of Beth Achim and
B'nai B'rith. In Clearwater
he was active at Cong. Beth
Sholom.
He leaves his wife, Susan;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Dr. Lawrence and Estelle of
Denver, Dr. Michael and Bar-
bara of Aspen; brother and
sister-in-law, Julius and
Rose of West Bloomfield;
five grandchildren. Interment
Florida.

Kahane Suspect Linked
With Combat Equipment
New York (JTA) — The
alleged assassin of Rabbi
Meir Kahane, Egyptian-
born El Sayyid Nosair, had
numerous combat- related
items stored in his New
Jersey home, including a
receipt for a case of 7.62mm
cartridges, according to
court papers filed by the
Manhattan District At-
torney's Office.
The 7.62mm cartridge is
used both in NATO rifles
and in the AK- 4 7
Mr. Nosair had a
great deal of
literature in his
home, including a
guide to buying
arms.
Kalachnikov rifle that has
been used throughout East-
ern Europe and many third
world countries. It is also
known for its use in sniper
rifles, primarily outside the
NATO bloc, said an official
from the National Rifle
Association.
Mr. Nosair, who has been
charged with first-degree
murder in the Nov. 5 death
of Mr. Kahane, has pleaded
not guilty and is being held
on $300,000 bail. He alleged-
ly killed Mr. Kahane after

Herbert Burdick
Herbert Burdick, 75, of Ann
Arbor, formerly of Detroit,
died Dec. 5.
Mr. Burdick was an at-
torney with offices in Detroit.
He was a former assistant
prosecuting attorney with
Wayne County.
He leaves his daughter and
son-in-law, Audree and Dr.
Ronald Saliman of Engle-
wood, Colo.; sons, Glenn of
Ann Arbor, Clifton of San
Diego, Calif.; brother and
sister-in-law, Judge Erwin
and Jennette of Northville;
sister and brother-in-law,
Shirley and Israel Greenberg
of Oak Park; three grandsons.
the former Knesset member
had delivered a speech at a
midtown hotel.
The D.A.'s office is hoping
to convince the judge sitting
in Mr. Nosair's case to
revoke the bail.
According to the court pa-
pers filed in State Supreme
Court by District Attorney
Robert Morgenthau's Office,
police searching Mr.
Nosair's home found
plasterboard with bullet
holes in it, some pistols,
earplugs, literature relating
to guns, hand grenades and
bomb making.
Police said Mr. Nosair had
a great deal of literature in
his home, including a guide
to buying arms and am-
munition and a pamphlet
called "Arms in
Afghanistan." He also had
news clippings relating to
the assassination of Egyp-
tian Prime Minister Anwar
Sadat and the attempt on
Interior Minister Zaki Badr,
undertaken by an Islamic
fundamentalist group.
A vial of poison was also
reportedly found in the sear-
ch of Mr. Nosair's locker at
his Manhattan job as a
boiler mechanic in New
York's downtown criminal
and civil courthouse, accor-
ding to the New York Times.
