Are Terrorists
In Greece?
Athens (JTA) — A Greek
newspaper has reported that
Arab terrorists, mainly Ira-
qi, have arrived in Greece
within the last two weeks
with plans to attack Ameri-
can installations and
possibly Israeli or even Jew-
ish targets should the
United States attack Iraq.
The government has de-
nied the report.
Government spokesman
Vyron Polydoras said the
report, which appeared in
the weekly To Vima, was in-
accurate. "Nothing out of
the ordinary is happening in
our country," he said.
However, security has
been tightened around the
most sensitive American,
Israeli and Jewish installa-
tions here.
To Vima reported that the
first Iraqi hit squad arrived
shortly after the Gulf crisis
began in August and a se-
cond showed up two weeks
ago, drawing the attention of
the Greek anti- terrorist
unit.
The terrorists are under
24-hour surveillance. They
know they are being watch-
ed, which hopefully might
deter them and prompt them
to leave the country, a police
source told To Vim a.
The Greek authorities also
have notified all other Euro-
pean Community member
states of the threat and are
coordinating activities with
their E.C. partners.
The Greek police believe
the Arabs are planning si-
multaneous strikes in all
E.C. countries if the United
States attacks Iraq.

Amsterdam (JTA) — A
Dutch newspaper columnist
who was fired after accusing
Jewish journalists of blindly
serving Israel's "propaganda
machine" claimed on televi-
sion that Jews are privileged.
Jacques van Doom, whose
weekly column appeared in
the respected daily NRC
Handelsblad, said he almost
wished he was a Jew
"because Jews are allowed
to say anything, and if
someone opposes them he is
accused of anti-Semitism."
Van Doorn, a professor
emeritus of sociology at the
University of Rotterdam,
accused Jewish journalists
abroad of "self-censorship"
when they wrote about the
Oct. 8 Temple Mount riots.
