NATALIE HALIGI .ITON

Jesse Jackson:
"Scourge of bigotry."

says an ex-aide, for
`insensitive' and 'disturbing'
remarks about Jews, Asians
and other non-black
minorities."
Mr. Kelly also writes that
there are "at least three ob-
vious Jesses:"
• "A self-annointed
king/god, who sees himself
. . . as an historically great
leader engaged in a life-long
mission."
• "A demagogic and
cynical manipulator of the
press and the public who
owes allegiance to no one
and stoops to anything to
advance himself."
• "A quasi-revolutionary,
an angry boy grown into an
angry man in unending con-
flict with a nation he sees as
immoral and unjust." To
why he invariably tells au-
diences about "a litany of
white sins from a quarter
century ago," Mr. Jackson
answers, "Only people who
are brain-dead forget the
past."
To which Mr. Kelly con-
cludes, "Jackson will never
forget the past. Which is
why it owns him."

History May
Increase Racism

Taking a dim view of a
possible result of the grow-
ing movement to teach
multi-cultural views of
American history in public
schools, Diane Ravitch, an
historian of education, pled
in a New York Daily News
op-ed for a multi-culturalism
that "celebrates our
society's openness and di-
versity."
The multi-culturalism Ms.
Ravitch favors would "show
how different groups have
struggled to overcome dis-
crimination and to expand
the American concept of
equal rights for all. It
teaches children to identify
with whoever struggled for
justice and freedom.
